WELCOME TO THE
NU BETA SIGMA
ALUMNAE CHAPTER

A Message from the Chapter President

Dr. Althea Hicks

Greetings Sorors and Guests,

Welcome to the Nu Beta Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, proudly serving Queens, New York. Since our establishment in June 2020, we have navigated numerous challenges while building partnerships, expanding our membership, and serving the diverse communities of Queens. As we embark on our fifth year, we reflect proudly on our achievements and eagerly anticipate future endeavors.

Aligned with our national motto, "Greater Service, Greater Progress," we have actively engaged with Queens through a range of initiatives. Among our notable programs is "Swim 1922," a collaboration with Swim Strong Foundation, Inc. and USA Swimming Inc., offering vital swim safety classes for both children and adults. Locally, we have partnered with esteemed organizations like the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and the March of Dimes to address health disparities and enhance community wellness.

Education remains a cornerstone of our mission, echoing the values of our founding educators. Annually, our Youth Symposium at CUNY-York College and the Queens Public Library fosters educational enrichment and leadership opportunities for young people. Additionally, through Operation Big Book Bag, we equip students with essential school supplies to support their academic journeys. This year, we celebrated academic excellence among Queens' community leaders and high school seniors by awarding substantial college scholarships.

As we continue to grow, evolve, and strengthen our commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, and service, we eagerly welcome new partnerships that will further enrich our community engagement in Queens and beyond.

Sincerely,

Dr. Althea Hicks
